Why Families Choose Epic Lake Day
Every Epic Lake Day booking is a fully private experience. Your family has the entire boat — no shared sessions, no strangers on board. Our professional captain tailors everything to your group, adjusting the wave size, boat speed, and activity intensity for each person individually. Pricing is per group, not per person, so you get great value — bring up to 12 guests for one flat rate.
Whether your kids are three or thirteen, there is something for everyone. Little ones love tubing at gentle speeds, older kids pick up wake surfing surprisingly fast on the adjustable wave, and grandparents can relax in heated comfort while taking photos of the whole crew. It is a Queenstown family activity everyone will remember.
As the only commercial operation of its kind in New Zealand, this is a truly unique experience your family won't find anywhere else. We operate around 90% of the year, so you can plan your holiday with confidence — and even on windy days, the sheltered waters of Frankton Arm keep things smooth.

Something for Everyone
Activities for Every Age
From toddlers to grandparents — every family member has a role to play on your Epic Lake Day.
Little Ones (3–7)
Tubing, kneeboarding, and scenic cruising at gentle speeds. The boat creates tiny waves and slow, smooth rides that keep little ones grinning from ear to ear. Big smiles, zero stress.
Kids (8–14)
Wake surfing, wakeboarding, and tubing. The Centurion Ri245 produces a fully adjustable wave — our captain dials it down to a small, soft ripple that makes learning easy and safe. Most kids are riding within minutes.
Teens & Adults
The full range of water sports: wake surfing, wake foiling, water skiing, and wakeboarding. Crank the wave up for an advanced ride or keep it mellow — the boat adapts to every skill level and body type.
Grandparents & Non-Riders
Enjoy the day from the boat. Heated seating, warm air outlets, and a premium interior make the Centurion Ri245 comfortable in any season. Watch the family ride, take photos, and soak in the stunning alpine scenery.

Premium Wetsuits Keep Everyone Warm
State-of-the-art wetsuits in all sizes — adults and children — with advanced stretch materials for warmth in every season.

FAQ
Family FAQ
There is no strict minimum age. Children as young as 3 can enjoy tubing and kneeboarding at gentle speeds, and kids from around 4–5 can begin wake surfing on a small, soft wave. Our captain adjusts the wave size, shape, and speed individually for each rider — so every child gets a comfortable, age-appropriate experience.
Yes. Wake surfing is one of the safest tow water sports available. Riders surf at just 16–18 km/h — much slower than wakeboarding or water skiing. Falls are low-speed and gentle, landing in calm water right behind the boat. A professional captain is always on board, all riders wear life jackets, and our crew provides full safety briefings and guidance throughout the session.
Basic water confidence is helpful, but children do not need to be strong swimmers. All riders — adults and children — wear Coast Guard–approved life jackets at all times. Your child is always close to the boat and in calm water. If your child is nervous around water, let us know and we will provide extra support and encouragement.
No problem at all. Many guests choose to stay on board and enjoy the ride from the boat. The Centurion Ri245 features heated seating, warm air outlets, and a premium interior — perfect for watching the action, taking photos, and soaking in the stunning Lake Wakatipu scenery. Non-riders are always welcome.
We provide everything you need: wetsuits in all sizes (including children), life jackets, and all water sports equipment. Just bring sunscreen, a towel, swimwear to wear under the wetsuit, and a camera. In cooler months, a warm change of clothes for afterwards is a good idea.
We are based at Queenstown Marina on Lake Wakatipu, in the Queenstown Lakes District of Central Otago. It is 20 minutes from Arrowtown, 45 minutes from Glenorchy or Cromwell, about one hour from Wānaka, and two hours from Te Anau. Free parking at the marina, and please arrive 15 minutes early for your safety briefing.
“The scenery is breathtaking and the team made us feel so safe. Even our kids loved it.”
